Some friends recently gave us this nightstand, and we decided to give it a fresh makeover

Not long ago, some friends gave me an old nightstand that they no longer needed. They were renovating their mother’s apartment and decided to part with some old furniture. When I first saw it, I was drawn to it, even though it was in poor condition and clearly required some work. But I immediately recognized its potential.

The nightstand had clearly seen better days. Its surface was worn, there were deep scratches, and the varnish was peeling, making it appear unattractive. Despite its condition, I could see beyond the flaws and decided not to toss it out, but rather to restore it.

I started by sanding off the old varnish and the darkened wood layer. It took a few hours, but slowly, the natural grain of the wood began to show through. After that, I treated the surface with a special product that would protect it from moisture and make it more durable over time.

Next, I had to decide on a color. I went back and forth on whether to keep the wood’s natural tone or to darken it. Ultimately, I chose a rich, warm brown that gave the nightstand a more refined appearance. To finish it off, I applied several coats of varnish, which not only protected the wood but also gave it a lovely, glossy finish.

The final step was updating the hardware. I swapped out the old, dull handles for sleek, modern metal ones, which instantly elevated the piece.

Now, the nightstand looks fantastic! What was once an outdated and worn piece of furniture has been transformed into a beautiful vintage item. This restoration not only brought new life to the nightstand but also turned it into a unique and stylish addition to my home.
